The Department has two main computer labs that are available for student use. The FHS 202 and FSA 429 labs are used as a computer classroom, but are available for general use when no classes are being taught in it. Both labs have an extensive collection of software including word processing, spreadsheet, graphing, graphics, and web design programs. Other specialized software includes groundwater modeling, geochemical, and GIS programs.
Equipment and software in the Research lab was partially funded by the Illinois State Geological Survey (ISGS) through the Illinois Board of Higher Education. The primary use of this computer lab is for processing geophysical and GIS data. It is also available for use on other research projects that are computationally intensive.
The Department strives to keep up with the rapid pace of changes in computer technology through periodic upgrades in hardware and software. More details on each of these labs is shown below.
